Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) on Thursday said it will set up two renewable energy plants at its vehicle manufacturing unit in Tamil Nadu as part of the company's move to transition to 100 per cent renewable electricity across manufacturing operations by 2025. The company has signed a power purchase and shareholder agreement with Fourth Partner Energy Ltd (FPEL) for the purpose of setting up of a 75 MW solar plant and a 43 MW wind power plant to cater to its renewable energy requirements, Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) said in a statement. These facilities will operate under a group captive mode with a special purpose vehicle (SPV) formed for engineering, procurement, construction, operations and maintenance. HMIL will hold 26 per cent and FPEL will hold 74 per cent equity stake in the project, it added. This long-term agreement will ensure a 25-year supply of renewable energy to HMIL, the company said. The Palakkad assembly constituency, which saw a high octane campaign that gave rise to scores of controversies, saw a voter turnout of 70.01 per cent till 6.49 pm on Wednesday after voting in the bypoll concluded in over 86 per cent of the polling booths. This was a decline from the 73.83 per cent turnout recorded in the assembly polls held in the state in 2021. When polling started at 7 am, it proceeded slowly with a low turnout of only 1.11 per cent at 8 am, according to figures released by the Election Commission (EC). By noon, five hours after voting commenced, the turnout reached 30.48 per cent. It took another three hours after that for the turnout to cross the 50 per cent mark. At 6.49 pm, the turnout reached 70.01 per cent after voting concluded in 159 of the 184 polling booths in the constituency, the EC said. A court on Saturday adjourned till April 5 the hearing on the bail plea of AAP leader Manish Sisodia, who has been arrested by the ED in a money laundering case linked to alleged irregularities in implementing the now-scrapped excise policy in Delhi. Special Judge MK Nagpal adjourned the hearing after Sisodia's counsel sought more time to prepare a detailed response to ED's submission on the bail plea. Sisodia moved the bail plea on Tuesday and the court sought the Enforcement Directorate's response by March 25. On Wednesday, after seven days of questioning by the ED, the court sent him to 14-day judicial custody. On Friday, the court reserved its order on a separate bail plea moved by Sisodia in the excise policy case lodged by the Central Bureau of Investigation. Rajasthan govt announces 4% hike in DA of state employees, pensioners 25 Mar 2023, 12:51 pm

The Rajasthan government on Saturday announced a 4 per cent increase in the dearness allowance of the state employees and pensioners. The pensioners and state government employees will now receive a 42 per cent dearness allowance (DA) with effect from January 1, 2023. Earlier, 38 per cent DA was being given to them. The decision will benefit about 8 lakh state employees and 4.40 lakh pensioners, according to an official release. Apart from the state employees, this benefit will also be payable to the work-charged, Panchayat Samiti and Zila Parishad employees. The state government will bear a financial burden of about Rs 1,640 crore annually with this increase. Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said the central government announced a DA, but it is implemented after a long time, while the Rajasthan government ensures immediate payment of the increased amount along with the announcement.

Delhi government-run hospitals will conduct a mock drill on Sunday to assess their preparedness to deal with any eventuality in view of rising COVID-19 and seasonal influenza cases.
