Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant admitted that star opener David Warner batted beautifully to give his team every chance to win the match against Royal Challengers Bangalore, but Dinesh Karthik’s commendable hitting in Mustafizur Rahman’s over proved to be a game-changer as the Faf du Plessis-led side sealed a 16-run win over DC in the 27th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium on Saturday.
Karthik blazed away after Glenn Maxwell hit seven fours and two sixes in his 55 off 34 deliveries to take RCB to 189 for five. The RCB veteran made his batting look effortless as he cracked four boundaries and two maximum off Mustafizur to plunder 28 runs in the 18th over.
DC vs RCB, IPL 2022: Highlights
In reply, the Capitals could only manage 173 for seven despite David Warner’s sensational 38-ball 66. This was Delhi’s third loss in five games as they slumped to the eighth position in the IPL 2022 points table, while RCB registered their fourth win in six outings to rise up.
“I think Warner batted beautifully and gave us every chance to win the match. Can’t blame Marsh, it was his first match and looked a bit rusty, but we could have done better in the middle overs,” Pant said in the post-match presentation ceremony.
“The wicket got better and better as the innings went along, that over from Mustafizur was a game-changer for us. I think we could bowl according to our plans, but we were under the pump, the way DK batted in the later overs was commendable,” Pant added.
However, Pant said that Delhi Capitals will have to learn from their mistakes to perform better in the upcoming IPL matches as the tournament has not even reached its halfway point.
“One boundary length was shorter and every batter was targeting it, so I changed Kuldeep’s end and he bowled really well. We will have to talk about doing better as a team, we’ll have to learn from our mistakes in the coming games,” Pant signed off.
