- India’s top-order was jolted by West Indies pacers on Friday
Virat Kohli’s lean patch in international cricket continues as the former captain got out for a second-ball duck in the 3rd ODI of the ongoing 3-match series against the West Indies at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Kohli was looking distraught as he did not trouble the scorers at all on Friday as his poor run of scores continued.
Virat Kohli was dismissed in the 4th over of the Indian innings on Friday after he edged a delivery that was going down the leg side from Alzarri Joseph. Kohli got a faint edge as he was trying to flick the freebie to the square leg boundary.
IND vs WI, 3rd ODI Live Updates
Notably, Kohli fell 2 deliveries after captain Rohit Sharma dragged one onto his stumps after scoring 13 runs. India had won the toss and opted to bat in the final ODI after having sealed an unbeatable 2-0 lead in the series but their top-order was jolted by West Indies pacers. India lost Rohit, Kohli and comeback man Shikhar Dhawan inside the first 10 overs of the innings.
Kohli’s no-show on Friday adds to the concerns surrounding his form in international cricket. While the wait for his 71st hundred has extended to more than 2 years, Kohli managed just 26 runs across 3 innings in the ODI series against the West Indies.
This is also his lowest tally in an ODI series since 2015 wherein he managed 49 against Bangladesh in Bangladesh.
Kohli had gotten out for a 4-ball 8 after an uncharacteristically irresponsible knock in the first ODI and looked good in the 2nd ODI before getting out for 18.
Meanwhile, Kohli has also equalled an unwanted record for the most number of ducks at home for India in ODI cricket. The 2-ball 0 on Friday was the 8th time he was dismissed without scoring in the 50-over format at home.
MOST DUCKS FOR INDIA IN ODIs AT HOME
8 – Harbhajan Singh
8 – Suresh Raina
8 – Virat Kohli
Kohli has scored just 142 runs in 6 matches in ODIs in 2022, averaging 23.66. He showed signs of getting back to rhythm in South Africa where he scored two fifties but Kohli’s lack of consistency has been hurting India across all formats.
