Former India captain Rahul Dravid has applied for the role of India men’s cricket team head coach on the deadline day for submitting applications to the top job in the Indian team management. Dravid is currently serving as the head of cricket operations at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.

Rahul Dravid officially applied for the head coach role, a source in the know of the development told Sports Tak. Notably, Dravid’s trusted aide and former India pacer Paras Mhambrey had applied for the bowling coach role on Monday.

The top brass of Board of Control for Cricket in India, including president Sourav Ganguly and secretary Jay Shah, had a meeting with Rahul Dravid in Dubai during the Indian Premier League 2021 and reports suggested that Dravid was asked to consider the role of the head coach.

The BCCI invited applications for head coach, bowling coach, batting coach and fielding coach of the senior men’s team earlier this month and set the deadline as October 26.

Notably, Ravi Shastri’s tenure as the head coach is all set to end after the T20 World Cup and the former captain had said he would not apply for the pods again. The contracts of bowling coach Bharat Arun and R Sridhar also expire after the showpiece event in the UAE.

Notably, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly told India Today earlier this month that Dravid had sought time to think about applying for the role of head coach and their meeting in Dubai was only about matters concerning to the NCA.

“If he wants to apply, he will apply, the process has to happen. For now, he is the coach of NCA and I believe NCA has a big role to play in Indian cricket. I have spoken to him earlier about this as well and he was not that interested and I feel the situation is still the same. He has asked for some time, let’s see what happens,” Ganguly had said.
