Erste Bank Open: Top-seed Stefanos Tsitsipas, Alexander Zverev advance to second round with straight-set wins : Rashtra News
On Tuesday, Stefanos Tsitsipas defeated Grigor Dimitrov 7-6 (6), 6-4 to go to the second round of the Erste Bank Open, joining Olympic champion Alexander Zverev.
Zverev won in straight sets as well, but had to come back from a 5-2 deficit in the second set to beat Filip Krajinovic 6-2, 7-5.
Tsitsipas, who fell to Dimitrov in the second round last year, was behind 6-3 in the tiebreaker before rallying to win the first set.
With Dimitrov serving at 5-4, Tsitsipas converted his first match point when the 22nd-ranked Bulgarian sliced a forehand wide.
Next up for the third-ranked Greek, who is chasing his third title of the season, is Frances Tiafoe, who overcame Dusan Lajovic 6-4, 6-4 in the first round.
This year, Tiafoe defeated Tsitsipas in straight sets at Wimbledon, although Tsitsipas leads Tiafoe 2-1 in career matchups.
Until he was serving for the first set, Zverev avoided break points against Krajinovic, but the second-seeded German fought off all three chances for the 40th-ranked Serb.
Zverev dropped his service early in the second set, but came back from a 5-2 deficit to win five straight games and earn a second-round match against Alex De Minaur.
Casper Ruud and Cameron Norrie, who are competing for the final two spots in the ATP Finals next month, both advanced with two-set victories.
Ruud won his 50th match of the year by defeating Lloyd Harris 7-5, 7-6 (2), and Norrie defeated Marton Fucsovics 7-6 (4), 6-1.
Felix Auger-Aliassime, the sixth seed, defeated Ricardas Berankis 6-3, 6-2, while Dennis Novak, an Austrian wild-card entry, defeated Italian qualifier Gianluca Mager 7-6 (4), 7-6 (4) in a late game.
