CHANDIGARH: The AICC general secretary and senior Haryana Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala on Friday flayed the Union as well as state government for deferring the procurement season while terming the move as a step towards ending the MSP and mandi system in the state.
Surjewala claimed that delayed procurement of paddy is the most cruel and inhumane joke by Narendera Modi led government in Centre and Khattar-Chautala government of state. “ Around 20 lakh metric tonnes of paddy is lying in opens in the mandis of the state. Just imagine the condition of farmers who are waiting for the procurement since September 25. Initially, Haryana government had planned from October 1 now in concurrence of order of the centre, the procurement is deferred till October 15. Who shall take responsibility of damage due to rains?’’ questioned Surjewala in a hurriedly convened press conference on a virtual platform.
Farmer is bringing the crop everyday. State agencies or Centre are not effecting procurement. Sh. Dushyant Chautala has cruelly said BJP-JJP Govt will review the situation after 3rd October.. This is part of the diabolical design to deny MSP to farmers, added Surjewala..
Surjewala also targeted the central government from bringing down the procurement limit from 33 quintals to 25 quintals per acre and reducing the rates of labor too while terming these as a cruel joke cracked on farmers as well as laborers in Mandis. He also raised the issue related the delay in fixing specifications for procurement of paddy in the state.
“ The Modi Govt has not fixed specifications for procurement for paddy for Kharif Marketing Season 2021-22 till date – the percentage of moisture content, slightly discoloured or shrunken crop. This is a crime as the draft circular, being opposed by Commission Agents – Unions – State Govts, is further reduction of standards of procurement. Ultimately, farmer bears the burnt of it,’’ he said.
Surjewala also flayed the Haryana government for reducing the procurement of Bajra (Millet) through the mandis and addition of the crop in the Bhavantar Bharpai Yojna. “ Last year the government had procured over 8 lakh metric tonnes of Millet through grain markets. This time they have decided to not to procure and the rates have come down to around Rs1200 per quintal. Even if you add Rs 600 of Bhavantar yojna, the total would much lesser than over Rs 2200 which was fixed last year. Hence, this is a cruelty towards farmers, especially those from southern Haryana,’’ said Surjewala.
