Ahead of his visit, the Prime Minister tweeted that development of close relations with neighbouring countries is a key priority for his government.
He further asserted India’s position of giving importance to “greater regional integration at all levels of socio-economic development of South Asian region”.
Modi said that he hoped the SAARC meet to lead to concrete outcomes on enhancing connectivity.
The Prime Minister also expressed that he looked forward to meeting the heads of other South Asian countries. Notably, Modi is slated to meet Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif among others on the sidelines of the SAARC summit.
