Several leaders have resigned from the party after being denied tickets. Singh will contest from Heingang assembly constituency. Two party MLAs were denied party tickets. The BJP has given tickets to three women candidates — Nemcha Kipgen from Kangpokpi, SS Olish from Chandel and Soraisam Kebi Devi from Naoriyapakhanglakpa.
As many as three former IAS officers — Dinganglung Gangmei (Dipu) from Nungba, Yengkhom Surchandra Singh from Kakching and Raghumani Singh from Uripok are fielded.The names of BJP candidates for Manipur were announced by Union minister and state election in-charge Bhupender Yadav with state in-charge Sambit Patra in New Delhi pn Sunday.
Yadav said those who have worked for a long time with the party in Manipur have been given tickets. “Only two sitting MLAs have been replaced with new faces,” he said.
The Manipur assembly polls will be held in two phases. In the first phase, polling will be held on February 27 in 38 assembly seats and in the second phase polling will be held on March 3 in 22 assembly constituencies.
Security has been stepped up around the BJP headquarters in Imphal. Security personnel are also posted outside BJP offices in several areas of the state.BJP-Wangkhei Mandal in a public statement stated, “We will always stand with our promising leader and sitting MLA Yumkham Erabot Singh. He is the only MLA who always stood in front and supported the Mandal..”
