UNSAFE CONSTRUCTION RISKS LIVES

The Resident Welfare Association (RWA) of Mahagun Mansion Phase I took a courageous step against the rickety construction made by Mahagun Builders.
The plan for constructing the building approved by the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) had no false roof. As soon as the construction was done, a little modification was done on the roofs. The false roof which looks fascinating from every angle had a flipside to it which wasn’t taken into consideration while adding it on the top. The four by four feet aluminium sheet with an elastic material in between is all wrapped up in blue adding to the repertoire of the building. The builders missed out one thing.If anything that is not welded permanently at a height of 45 meters from the ground can have adverse effects. In a windy evening, one the four false roofs fell down on the society park. Another one flipped back on the roof and the remaining two are in a ramshackle state.
The RWA lodged a complaint to both the authorities and the builders but to no avail. DM Sharma, UDS facility manager, said, “We have lodged a few complaints to the builders regarding this issue but no response was received from them. Thereafter, we lodged a complaint with the GDA highlighting the issue. After inquiring, we found out that the plan was approved by GDA didn’t have any false roof but the builder has constructed the roof as per his whims and fancies.”
The letter sent to the builder states that the panels or parts that comprise the parapet have not been able to withstand furious air pressure or storm. If it strikes from a height of 45 metres with a sheer pressure, it may kill people accidentally.
Shekar Srivastav, RWA general secretary said, “It is not only the fault of the builders. If GDA would have been proactive regarding the safety of the people, this would have never happened. The builder, the architect and the GDA are equally guilty. The blame is on the builders because they have constructed it while no one questions GDA or the architect. The architect showed off his skills, the GDA missed it and the builders built it,  risking our lives.”
