This is how WhatsApp may soon solve many users profile picture ‘problem’ – Rashtra News
“WhatsApp is planning to add a new “My contact except…” option for Last Seen, Profile Picture, About, so you can finally exclude a contact to view specific data without setting it to Nobody”, says a report by WaBetaInfo.
This means that if you are not comfortable with some people in your contact list seeing your profile picture you should be able to hide it from them. This feature may not only enhance privacy but also security on the platform.
In its report, the WhatsApp feature tracker has shared a screenshot of how this will look like. Once the new privacy feature is rolled out, a new option ‘My contacts except’ will be added to Last seen settings. Currently, users can opt from three privacy settings for Last See, About and Profile Photo. These three options are Everyone, Nobody, and My Contacts.

With the addition of ‘My contacts except’, users will be able to hide their privacy settings from select users in their contact list. “When you exclude a contact, the contact does not need to use an updated version of the app, because the server automatically manages this setting for you. So, when this feature will be enabled for beta testers, you can immediately start excluding contacts”, the report says.
Readers must note that if they hide their last seen, profile picture and about from other contacts, they too will lose access to view other’s last seen, profile picture and about. The feature is currently under development and is available for beta users. It will be rolled out to all users in a future update.
