Cricket West Indies has rubbished rumors of a rift in the senior national men’s team, saying all is well in the group among the senior players who are currently involved in a 5-match T20I series at home against England.
Cricket West Indies noted that there were voice notes alleging a rift between senior members of the team circulated on social media and regional broadcast media during the high-profile series at home.
“Contrary to the unsubstantiated statements, containing unfounded and mischievous allegations, CWI is satisfied that there is no discord between the Team Captain and any member of the West Indies team,” a CWI statement said on Friday, January 29.
CWI President Ricky Skerritt said there is no rift between Kieron Pollard and any other team member and that he said the rumour-mongering is being carried out by “well-known mischief makers” and that it shouldn’t be encouraged.
“I view this as a malicious attack on the credibility of the West Indies Captain, designed to sow division within our team that has just recorded three very impressive T20I performances against very strong opponents, including two outstanding wins and one heroic comeback to get within one run of victory.
“This clear attempt by well-known mischief makers to discredit the Captain and to derail the Team’s momentum in the ongoing Betway T20I Series should not be tolerated or encouraged,” Ricky Skerritt said.
Kieron Pollard is leading West Indies in the ongoing T20I series against England in Barbados. West Indies lead the series 2-1 after they won the 3rd T20I on Wednesday. The fourth T20I between the two sides will be played on Saturday and the series finale on Sunday.
West Indies will head to India in February for a 3-match ODI and T20I series in Ahmedabad and Kolkata.
