it’s no secret that every cricketer who signs up to play for Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL) relishes the experience of playing under MS Dhoni. Every year, CSK’s new-recruits express delight at the opportunity to share the dressing room with the legendary cricketer and learn the tricks of the trade from the master tactician. New Zealand opener Devon Conway is no different.
Conway, who has signed up at the IPL 2022 mega auction at his base price of Rs 1 crore, said he was excited to play under the former World Cup-winning captain. However, Dhoni stepped down from the role, bringing down the curtains on a celebrated stint during which he won 4 titles.

However, Conway said he approached MS Dhoni asking him if he didn’t want to continue as captain for another year so that the New Zealand batter could have the opportunity of playing under the legendary skipper.
In a video shared by Chennai Super Kings, Conway revealed the “nice little” conversation he had with Dhoni and the response to his cheeky request.
“I was wanting to play under the great MS (Dhoni) as captain. I had a nice little conversation with him. I said, ‘you’re sure you don’t want to captain one more season so I can play under you as captain?” Conway shared the details of his chat.
He said, ‘No, but I am always going to be around anyway’.”
‘REALLY COOL LUNCH’
Meanwhile, Conway said both Dhoni and newly-appointed captain Ravindra Jadeja are ‘down-to-earth’ personalities, briefing an opportunity to share the lunch table with the two icons of the 4-time champions.
“A couple of days ago I had lunch and sat in between MS and Jaddu. It was really cool just to get to know them better. There are just normal men, down-to-earth. There’s no aura about them, easy to get along and easy to talk to,” Conway added.
Ravindra Jadeja took over from MS Dhoni after the former skipper decided to quit the corvette role 2 days before the start of IPL 2022. Chennai franchise said in their statement that Dhoni will continue to represent the franchise “this season and beyond”.
CSK did not get off to a good start under new captain Jadeja as the 4-time champions lost to Kolkata Knight Riders in their IPL 2022 opener.
Former CSK opener and Australia star Matthew Hayden said that Chennai looked nervous under their new captain Jadeja as they managed just 131/5 on the board despite a fifty from MS Dhoni before losing by 6 wickets.
“Even the nervousness they felt with Rav (Ravindra Jadeja) as captain it was so unlike CSK in many ways. I am getting a little nervous about CSK. They have got a new captain, a completely different outfit, some old heads there but there’s also a lot to prove,” Hayden had told Star Sports.
