Delhi Capitals have had a decent start to their IPL 2022 campaign, with two wins out of four, placing them at sixth in the table. They have beaten the struggling Mumbai Indians and the high-flying Kolkata Knight Riders. But they lost their two games to tournament debutants Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants.
Delhi Capitals all-rounder Shardul Thakur was bought this year in IPL 2022 mega auction for a massive 10.75 crore. He played an instrumental in helping Chennai Super Kings lift the IPL trophy last season, getting the figures of 3-38 against Kolkata Knight Riders in the final. This season, he has taken 3 wickets and scored 53 runs in four games for Delhi Capitals so far.

Shardul Thakur said that he liked the environment of his new team, with a core of young players, and that he liked to make an impact in every game that he played.
“The environment within the team is quite good. There are a lot of youngsters in the team and we are all friends as we’ve been playing together for some time. I like to make an impact in every match I play and that’s why I play with a lot of energy,” said Shardul Thakur in a Delhi Capitals media release.
Delhi Capitals have a good core of all-rounders in the team, Lalit Yadav, Mandeep Siingh, Axar Patel, Mitchell Marsh, along with Shardul Thakur. In the match against KKR, Patel (22 runs off 14 balls unbeaten) and Thakur (29 runs off 11 balls unbeaten) helped DC get 215 runs. Thakur finished the game with figures of 2-30 in the bowling department, as KKR were all out at 171. Lalit Yadav also got a wicket in that game.
GREAT DEPTH
Shardul Thakur praised the talent of the all-rounders and the batting depth in the DC team.
“We have great depth in our batting. The more all-rounders are there, the better it is for any team in T20s. If we lose quick wickets at the top, then the role of the players batting at 6,7 & 8 becomes important.” The all-rounder further added.
Thakur was all praise for Delhi Capitals head coach Ricky Ponting, saying that he allowed the players to play their natural game, irrespective of the circumstances.
“The team is moving in the right direction and our Head Coach Ricky Ponting has always told us to play our natural game no matter what the situation is. He backs us so we always try to give our best,” he said.
Thakur said that he enjoyed playing cricket and has worked hard to get to this stage of his career.
“I look to enjoy playing cricket. I have worked hard to reach this stage so I don’t want to put myself under any kind of pressure. Even when the crowd cheers for our opponents in the stadium, I look to enjoy those situations.”
Delhi Capitals will face Royal Challengers Bangalore in their next match at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Saturday.
