Delhi Capitals will head into the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 season, bidding to end their wait for an elusive title. Led by Rishabh Pant, Delhi have assembled a well-rounded squad despite letting go of a few of their star players at the IPL 2022 mega auction.

All eyes will be on the combination between head coach Ricky Ponting and captain Pant as Delhi will look to build on the good run they have had in the last two years. They will be without two of their key performers from the last few seasons – Shreyas Iyer and Kagiso Rabada.

Delhi Capitals retained Pant, Anrich Nortje, Prithvi Shaw and Axar Patel, thereby retaining the core group of youngsters who will serve the franchise in the years to come. While Pant, Axar and Nortje are key stars for their national teams as well, Shaw will be looking to make an impact in IPL 2022 and get back into team India reckoning.

DELHI ACE IPL AUCTION

Delhi Capitals were one of the few sides who were actively looking to get back their former players at the IPL 2022 mega auction. They even bid for former captain Shreyas Iyer who has moved away from the franchise to lead Kolkata Knght Riders.

Delhi Capitals let go of the likes of R Ashwin and Amit Mishra too but they have added some quality players to challenge for the IPL 2022 title.

Delhi have a strong core group of batters after having brought in Australia opener and former SunRisers Hyderabad captain David Warner. They also secured the services of in-form Mumbai batter Sarfaraz Khan, U19 world Cup India captain, Yash Dhull and Mandeep Singh.

They have three fine wicketkeepers in Pant, KS Bharat and New Zealand big-hitter Tim Seifert.

When it comes to all-rounders, Delhi have gone for quality over quantity, securing the services of Shardul Thakur, Axar, Mitchell Marsh, Ripal Patel and Lalit Yadav.

Delhi let go off Rabada but they have bought the likes of Mustafizur Rahman, Khaleel Ahmed, Lungi Ngidi, Kamlesh Nagarkoti and Chetan Sakariya.

The spin-bowling department will be handled by U19 World Cup star Vicky Ostwal, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar and Praveen Dubey.

All eyes will be on Ricky Ponting and his assistant coach Shane Watson as Delhi have a strong support staff group.
