HIGHLIGHTS
- Virat Kohli is 73 runs away from reclaiming the No.1 spot in T20I batting chart
- Rohit Sharma is not far behind at the 3rd spot in the all-time list
- India will play the West Indies in 3 T20Is in Kolkata from February 16
Former captain Virat Kohli is eying another milestone as he gears up for the 3-match T20I series against the West Indies, starting February 16 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Kohli will be looking to reclaim the top spot in all-time batting chart for most runs in the T20I format of the game.
Virat Kohli has scored 3227 runs in 95 matches in the shortest format of the game and is holding the 2nd spot in the elite list. He is only 72 runs behind New Zealand’s Martin Guptill who currently holds the record with 3299 runs in 1112 matches. Notably, it was during a 3-match series against India in India, Guptill overtook Kohli on the elite list with scores of 70, 31 and 51.
Virat Kohli did not play the 3-match T20I series against New Zealand as he was rested after the T20 World Cup campaign in October-November. India hammered New Zealand to register a convincing 3-0 series sweep under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy.
Captain Rohit Sharma is not far behind as the Mumbai Indians captain has 3197 runs, only 30 less than Virat Kohli. Having played 119 matches, Rohit also has an opportunity to go past Guptill and claim the numero uno position in the all-time batting charts in T20I cricket.

The spotlight will be on Virat Kohli, who received the backing of captain Rohit Sharma on Tuesday, as the former skipper will look to end a prolonged lean patch in international cricket. Kohli’s last international hundred came in 2019 but the Delhi batter’s form in T20Is has been decent despite criticism about his conservative approach at the top of the order.
However, Kohli has been putting in the hard yards in the training in the lead up to the 3-match series in Kolkata.
Kohli was first to enter the nets to take throwdowns from the Indian support staff as he batted from both ends before going for the drill. Later he had a lengthy net session, spanning more than 45 minutes, according to the PTI news agency.
India skipper Rohit Sharma along with coach Rahul Dravid were also seen in a long discussion with curator Sujan Mukherjee.
