Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson in his chat with Gaurav Kapoor revealed that every bit of his learning comes from Rahul Dravid. Samson spoke candidly about his journey on the popular cricket chat show Breakfast With Champions, stating that whatever Rahul Dravid had said to him till date, he had noted everything down in a notebook.
He further added that Rajasthan camp is one of the top camps for the growth of a young cricketer as the environment of the team teaches a player humility amongst other things.
Speaking about how he got through to Rajasthan, Samson said that he was at his absolute best in those two days of the trial and has never batted better in his entire life.
“I batted in the trials for two days, and never have I been able to match the standards of those two days in my entire life. I’d hit a shot and a voice would come from behind, ‘what a shot. Shot Sanju,’” the right hander said.
He talked about his time with Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) and how Rahul Dravid’s presence as the batting coach there helped him to grow.
“We all had that kind of experience with Rahul Dravid, to learn from him,” Sanju said.
“Those 3-4 years that I spent with him, I feel I’ve almost asked him everything. Everything is still written in my notebook. After talking to him, I would go back to my room and quickly jot down what he said,” Samson revealed.
Sanju Samson has done very well with Rajasthan Royals since taking over captaincy. Samson not only scored more runs and found stability while batting, raking up 484 runs in the previous season – his personal best in the IPL. He has been in decent touch in the current season of the Indian Premier League, scoring 298 runs from 10 matches in 2022.
