Delhi Capitals had completed nine of their last ten chases at the MCA coming into this match, but failed to replicate the same form against Gujarat Titans.
Early exits of Prithvi Shaw, Tim Seifert, and Mandeep Singh during the power play, with Lalit Yadav and Rishabh Pant’s departure soon after, left Delhi Capitals high and dry.
Rishabh Pant believes that losing so many wickets early was the reason the match became difficult, and the team in the middle order could have batted better.
“I think according to the wicket that total was not so big. We could have batted well specially in the middle overs, we lost three wickets in the powerplay and three in the middle. I think every match is going to be hard after losing so many wickets,” Pant said to the broadcasters.
Pant said that the weather conditions in the stadium determine the lineup of the team.
“Depending on the weather conditions (we will decide to bat or bowl first), but we are not thinking about that now and we will see when we come back to Pune.”
Rishabh Pant was all praise for Delhi Capitals head coach Ricky Ponting, and said that the team needed to keep improving as the tournament progressed.
“He (Ponting) has been amazing since day one. When you lose you feel heartbroken but at the end of the day if you keep improving and have a better environment then people can perform in the next match.”
