Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper Ravindra Jadeja reckoned his team failed to stick to plans in the death overs of their game against the Gujarat Titans (GT) on April 17 at the MCA Stadium in Pune. On Sunday, CSK lost their fifth match in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 against Hardik Pandya’s Titans by three wickets and kept tottering at seventh in the points table.
GT vs CSK Highlights
Jadeja said that with 62 runs to defend, the Super Kings’ bowlers crumbled under pressure. The all-rounder also felt that the pitch wasn’t an easy one to bat on. Moreover, Jadeja had words of praise for David Miller, who scored an unbeaten 51-ball 94, laced with eight fours and six sixes. Miller also won the Player of the Match after playing the match-winning hand.
‘Didn’t execute our plans’
“We started brilliantly. First six overs were good as a bowling unit, but credit goes to Miller, who played some good cricket shots. When we were batting, the wicket was gripping and the ball was holding so we thought 169 was a par score. But we didn’t execute our plans in the last five,” Jadeja was quoted as saying.
Jadeja also had the back of Chris Jordan, who couldn’t pick up a wicket and went for 58 runs in 3.5 overs. Jordan was entrusted to defend 13 runs in the last over, but Miller smashed him for a four and six to take the Titans over the line. The CSK skipper said that Jordan was given the ball because of the experience he has.
“(20th over) I think CJ is experienced so I thought let me go with him. He can bowl 4-5 yorkers. Unfortunately, it didn’t happen today, that’s the beauty of T20 cricket,” he added.
After asking GT to chase down 170, CSK reduced their opposition to 48/4 in eight overs. From there on, Miller took charge after which Rashid Khan played a handy 40-run cameo off 21 balls. After Rashid got out in the penultimate over, Miller made sure the Titans didn’t suffer any hiccup.
