Mohammed Siraj completed 100 wickets in T20 cricket on Monday but there was little to celebrate for the fast bowler as Royal Challengers Bangalore crashed out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 following a 4-wicket defeat against Kolkata Knight Riders in the Eliminator at Sharjah.
KKR were cruising in their run chase at 125 for 4 in chase of 139 when Siraj came back for his final spell to dismiss Sunil Narine and Dinesh Karthik in the 18th over to raise RCB’s hopes of victory.
Narine’s wicket was Siraj’s 100th in the shortest format while Karthik’s dismissal helped him complete 50 IPL wickets in his 50th game for RCB. But his performance sadly, ended in vain as KKR crossed the finish line with 2 balls to spare despite Siraj’s late double-strike.
RCB vs KKR, IPL 2021: Highlights | Report
Siraj finished the IPL 2021 season with 11 wickets from 15 games at an average of 32.09 and a strike rate of 28.36. His best performance of 3 for 27 came in a winning cause against the Rajasthan Royals on April 22 at the Wankhede Stadium.
Siraj wasn’t the only RCB player who reached a major milestone in the Eliminator as all-rounder Glenn Maxwell completed 500 runs in the season to finish as his team’s highest run-scorer.
Playing in his debut season for the Bangalore franchise, Maxwell amassed 513 runs from 15 games at 42.75 with 6 half-centuries to finish as the fifth highest run-getter this season and the only one from RCB to cross the 500-run mark.
This is the second time Maxwell has crossed 500 runs in a season after IPL 2014 in which he finished with 552 runs and a wicket for the Punjab Kings. This season he also has picked 3 wickets.
