Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan scripted his name on the record books to become the first-ever batsman to record 1000 T20I runs in a calendar year during the T20 World Cup semi-final against Australia on Thursday.
Rizwan continued his impressive run in the semi-final with another half-century against Australia. This is his 11th T20I fifty, 3rd of the tournament and 10th half-century in 2021.

Earlier in the tournament, Rizwan also went past Chris Gayle’s record of most T20 runs in a calendar year; he now has 1676 runs in 2021, at an average of 57.79 at a strike rate of 132.59. Rizwan played an integral role for Pakistan in the tournament. Rizwan is the second-highest run-scorer for the team, after only captain Babar Azam.
Earlier in the same match, Pakistan captain Babar Azam broke Virat Kohli’s record to become the fastest batsman to complete 2500 runs in the shortest format of international cricket. Babar reached the landmark in 62 innings while Kohli had taken 68 innings.

Australia captain Aaron Finch opted to bowl first after winning the crucial toss against Babar Azam-led Pakistan in Semifinal 2 of the T20 World Cup in Dubai on Thursday. Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan got Pakistan off to a dream start in Dubai as they added 71 runs in the first 10 overs before Adam Zampa dismissed the PAK skipper for 39.
