HIGHLIGHTS
- India have not won a Test series in England since 2007
- Rain is expected to play a part in the 5th and final Test in Manchester
- India are leading the 5-match series 2-1 after winning at Lord’s and Oval
India were probably denied a victory in the first Test of the 5-match series as rained washed out the final day of the series opener at the Trent Bridge in Nottingham. However, Virat Kohli’s men have managed to put pressure on England despite losing the 3rd Test by an innings and 76 runs before making a strong comeback in the Oval in London.
India are leading the series 2-1 and will be hoping to complete a series victory for the first time since 2007 in England. However, both teams will be keeping an eye on the weather which has been, as usual, unpredictable in England.
India trained at the Old Trafford in Manchester on Wednesday and images from the scenic venue did show that the sun was out bright and shining. A week ago the prediction was not great for the 5th Test but as we get closer to the 5th Test, there is good news for cricket fans.
According to AccuWeather, a morning shower will be followed by period of sunshine before an afternoon shower. However, it’s unlikely to cause lengthy delays as some amount of play is expected on the opening day of the series finale at Old Trafford.
The weather for Saturday (Day 2) looks a bit bleak as it is forecast to be cloudy with spells of shower.
However, the good news is Sunday and Monday are expected to offer good cricket-playing conditions in Manchester. The final day is also expected to be cloudy with a “couple of showers” through the day.

The pitch at Old Trafford is considered to be among the fastest in the Old Blighty and with very little prolonged period of sunshine over the weekend, it’s not going to offer much for the spinners. India will be tempted to go in with the same combination of 4 pacers and a spinner.
However, it remains to be seen if Jasprit Bumrah will be picked for the 5th Test, considering the India pacer has played all four Tests. An important T20 season is coming up with the Indian Premier League and the T20 World Cup and Bumrah will be crucial to Mumbai Indians as well as India’s chances in the marquee tournament in the UAE.
It remains to be seen if R Ashwin gets an opportunity after having warmed the benches in the first four Tests of the ongoing series in England.
