IPL 2021 Final, CSK vs KKR: Ruturaj Gaikwad has arguably been the best batsman in the UAE-leg of IPL 2021. The CSK became the youngest Orange Cup holder in the league’s history when he overtook KL Rahul on the run-scorers charts on Friday.

Chennai Super Kings opener Ruturaj Gaikwad became the youngest player in the history of the Indian Premier League to win the Orange Cup during the IPL 2021 final against Kolkata Knight Riders on Friday. Ruturaj needed only 24 more runs to surpass KL Rahul to claim the Organe Cap for the season before the final.
Ruturaj got past Rahul’s tally in the powerplay of the IPL 2021 final after Eoin Morgan won the toss and sent Chennai Super Kings into bat. Ruturaj was once again impressive, as he took on the KKR bowling attack in the first 6 overs. Notably, only once in the history of the IPL (Robin Uthappa with KKR in 2014) had gone on to win the IPL title after winning the Orange Cap.
The Orange Cap is awarded to the leading run-scorer in the IPL. During the entire tournament, the batsman with the most runs wears the orange cap while fielding in the match.

The curtain-raising season of the IPL turned out to be a breakthrough year for Australia’s Shaun Marsh. Over the years, some of the top batsmen have won Orange Cap in the history of IPL. Sachin Tendulkar, Matthew Hayden, Virat Kohli, David Warner, Chris Gayle, Kane Williamson, and many more are part of the orange cap holders list.
Gaikwad looked CSK’s only bright spot in the final three games of the IPL 2020 and continued to shine as the 2021 season began. Together with Faf du Plessis, Gaikwad has made the opening slot his own and made sure that CSK gets good starts at the top.
Since the IPL 2021 season resumed on September 19, Gaikwad has scored 88*, 38, 40, 45 and 101*. The batsman endured a dip in form in the next two games, scoring 12 and 13 runs respectively. He then bounced back with a score of 70 against Delhi Capitals in Qualifier 1 to help CSK book a spot in the final.
