HIGHLIGHTS
- Cricket South Africa congratulated all 3 South African player in CSK camp after backlash
- CSA had initially ignored Faf du Plessis and imran Tahir
- Du Plessis and Tahir are not part of South Africa’s T20 World Cup squad
After facing plenty of backlash over their social media post to congratulate South Africa players in Chennai Super Kings’ victorious team in Indian Premier League 2021, Cricket South Africa retracted their initial post. They included the names of Faf du Plessis and Imran Tahir in their post after initially excluding them.
Cricket South Africa on Saturday posted a message congratulating only Lungi Ngidi but ignored du Plessis and Tahir despite their former captain playing a key role in CSK’s run to their 4th IPL title. Du Plessis hit a match-winning 85 in the IPL 2021 final against Kolkata Knight Riders on Friday in Dubai.
“Congratulations to all the South Africans who competed in and claimed victory in the 2021 IPL Final with Chennai Super Kings. Notably Faf du Plessis who put in a Man of the match performance,” CSA said.

Surprised by the post from CSA, du Plessis responded to it, wondering why the board had chosen to not mention him in the congratulatory post.
Notably, Dale Steyn slammed Cricket South Africa, saying the governing body has embarrassed itself. Steyn called for deleting the social media post and including the other two players who were part of the CSK camp.
“CSA opening a can of worms for themselves with their Twitter and Instagram. Whoever’s running those accounts needs a talking too,” said Steyn in a tweet.
“CSA now blocked the comments section. Here’s some advice. Do the right thing. Delete the post and add all the men involved, save yourself the embarrassment and ridicule,” he said in another tweet.
Notably, Faf du Plessis and Imran Tahir have not been picked for the T20 World Cup. However, the veteran cricketers are yet to retire from the shortest format of the game.
In fact, du Plessis finished with 633 runs, 2 runs short of his teammate Ruturaj Gaikwad’s tally of 635 which helped him become the youngest player to win the Orange Cap in an IPL season.
