India vs New Zealand: Overseen by new coach Rahul Dravid, Rohit Sharma leads India’s preparation for T20Is : Rashtra News
India had their first training session under the leadership of Rohit Sharma and new head coach Rahul Dravid at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Monday as they geared up for a 3-match T20I series against New Zealand. The series opener will be played in the city on November 17.
India’s players got out of quarantine and had their first training session where the energies were high, according to the BCCI. Head coach Rahul Dravid, who has taken over from Ravi Shastri, was seen keeping a close eye on the proceedings.
In fact, Rahul Dravid doubled as a throwdown specialist as he was seen giving a throwdown to Rohit Sharma and other batters in the side. In photos shared by the BCCI, the former India captain was seen interacting with vice-captain KL Rahul as there were plenty of smiles in the India training session in the evening in Jaipur.
Rohit Sharma, who takes over from Virat Kohli as the T20I captain after the latter stepped down from the role, was seen having discussions with all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer and off-spinner R Ashwin. Rohit was looking in fine touch at the nets as he smashed quite a few deliveries into the night sky.

India will be without Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami as the quartet have been rested for the T20I series. Kohli will also miss the first Test and return to lead the side in the 2nd Test.

The BCCI selection committee picked a squad that has a good mix of youth and experience. The likes of Ruturaj Gaikwad, Harshal Patel, Avesh Khan and Venkatesh Iyer were rewarded for their performances in the IPL while Yuzvendra Chahal and Shreyas Iyer returned to the squad after missing the T20 World Cup.
It will be a fresh start for India under the leadership group of Rohit and Dravid as they would want to shake off the memories of the early exit from the T20 World Cup. With an eye on next year’s showpiece event, India will be looking to find the right balance.
Meanwhile, New Zealand, who played the T20 World Cup final on Sunday have already arrived in Jaipur. They will be without captain Kane Williamson who has opted to rest for the T20I series and gear up for the Tests. Tim Southee will lead the Black Caps in the 3-match series.
