Qualcomm is reportedly working on Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus, the successor to its non-Plus variant that launched in December 2021. There is a suggestion that the US chipmaker will launch the enhanced SoC in May, as per the regular tipster Yogesh Brar.
Brar’s claims have strong credibility as his timeline aligns with Qualcomm’s 5G summit happening from May 9 to 11. He also claims the chipmaker will announce new Snapdragon 700-chipsets, for budget phones at the same time.
Brar shared some intriguing details about the upgrade to the SD8G1+ SoC. Apparently, the US semiconductor will use TSMC’s 4nm fabrication on the Plus variant contrary to the suggestion of preferring Samsung’s. This could be to alleviate heating issues some section of smartphone users have experienced on the flagship chipset.
So far there are not many details about the coming upgrade to the Gen 1 Plus chipset. But the leaks reveal that it will have the model number SM8475 against its predecessor Snapdragon 8 Gen 1‘s SM8450. But the Plus variants don’t bring much with Qualcomm’s SoCs, historically speaking. So we might not be seeing noticeable upgrades over the current flag bearer.
What we know is that TSMC’s 4nm fabrication on it will drive down heating issues to some extent. We can also expect slightly better clock speeds and faster AI processing.
