qualcomm: Qualcomm isn’t ‘happy’ with Google, here’s why – Rashtra News

American chipmaker Qualcomm doesn’t seem to have taken well the fact that Google is going to put its self-built chipset into the upcoming Pixel smartphones and has made it public via a tweet. The chipmaker took a dig at Google with a tweet that says,
“We’ve decided to make our own smartphone SoC instead of using Snapdragon” followed by a long list of red flags.

Qualcomm has supplied the chipsets for the Pixel phones until now and Pixel 6 is going to change that. Qualcomm has lost a part of its revenue base, even if it is small compared to the other companies it ships its chipsets to.
With the red flags (not just a single red flag) in the tweet, it looks like Qualcomm is trying to warn Android users not to trust in the Google Tensor chip.
It isn’t like the two companies have totally parted ways. Google and Qualcomm are still going to work together to support the Android platform. But Qualcomm has certainly made its displeasure felt at being ditched for the flagship Google smartphone with its tweet.
Introducing its own in-house chip for the Pixel 6 series is how Google is taking steps towards self-reliance. The tech giant could also have plans for its own chipset for its upcoming Chromebooks and tablets, as per an earlier report by Nikkei Asia, based on inputs from three sources. As per the report, Google may unveil the new chipsets by 2023.
“The new CPUs and the mobile processors that Google is developing are based on the chip blueprints of Arm, the Softbank-controlled UK chip company whose intellectual property is used in more than 90% of the world’s mobile devices,” the report said.
