Postal service could be used in eCommerce delivery. The MoCIT has tabled the proposal as part of modernizing the service. And the plan could be formally included in the plans and policies for FY 079/80.
MoCIT Secretary Baikuntha Aryal presented the idea at a recent meeting at the Ministry. He called for the need to transform the dating service for sustainability and efficiency.
Similarly, Finance Minister Janadarshan Sharma shared similar views. He also pointed to the need of advancing the postal service to modern standards. The minister then directed to formally include the new plans and policies into the next FY budget. “We should modernize our postal service. Private sectors have leaped forward, but the public service is yet to find a pace with current working practices,” he remarked.

More steps to modernize postal service
The minister then talked of retiring long-serving personnel and recruiting new ones to inject fresh blood into the postal service.
Likewise, the ICT ministry has put forward the proposal for all government bodies to deduct three percent of the amount they pay for welfare ads and deposit the amount in the fund of the Advertising Board. The ministry’s Secretary Aryal said, doing this will ease budget mobilization on welfare ads issued for the public.
Besides, MOCIT Minister Gyanendra Bahadur Karki said the government will be cautious while drafting policies for the next FY’s budget.
General Postal Service is Nepal’s oldest mail service since 1878 A.D. The organization has become a member of the Universal Posta Union (UPU) in 1956 and the Asia Pacific Postal Union (APPU) in 1982 A.D. expanding its network worldwide. The organization has in total 3997 branch offices in operation. As for deliveries, it offers service in two categories – commercial and mandatory. The commercial deliveries include letter, parcel, and post box services, while mandatory includes postal saving bank.
Integrating postal service into eCommerce delivery will help the public service become more advanced, and efficient. It is one of those improvements, the organization has sought in recent years. Let’s hope the government doesn’t let up in advancing the prestigious organization which has been a key mail service for Nepalese for decades.
