CBI, SIT asked to file fresh reports in cases of poll violence
A bench, comprising newly-appointed chief justice Prakash Shrivastava and Justice IP Mukerji, on Monday took on record the latest status report filed by the SIT.
The court directed the CBI and the court-monitored SIT to file new status reports on the post-poll violence case on December 23. The court observed that the SIT team is taking steps to monitor a number of cases which are under investigation and that a new status report has to be filed by the CBI and SIT teams showing the progress in this probe.
Earlier, the CBI and SIT teams had submitted status reports before a division bench, comprising the then acting chief justice Rajesh Bindal and justice Rajarshi Bharadwaj, in the ongoing post-poll violence investigation. Following this, the hearing was listed for November 8. Additional Solicitor General YJ Dastoor, appearing for the CBI, apprised the court that CBI has so far registered 40 FIRs and investigation was being carried out.
The counsel also submitted that in many cases, charge sheets have also been filed. The bench directed the counsels, who raised the issue of compensation, to wait till the new status report is submitted by the CBI and SIT. At the previous hearing, the counsels for the petitioners had appealed before court regarding compensation, which they were yet to receive.
