Interestingly, Sri Padmavati Mahila Visvavidyalayam (SPMV) is a pioneer in launching the exclusive course of public policy right at the graduation level which was introduced in 2018-19. “BA public policy and anthropology course, which was introduced in our university in the 2018-19 academic year, has proved to be a big hit with the students. We have decided to launch MA public policy from the current academic year,” said Dr Sujatha, course coordinator.
Former chief secretaries Dr Mohan Kanda, Dr Manmohan Singh, Dr K V Satyanarayana, and Dr Ashok would be working as mentors and advisors to the university in rolling out the stream. Some of the officials have also agreed to physically visit the university to share their knowledge and act as chief faculty. “This is expected to bring huge experience to the campus and help the students in realizing their civils dreams,” said Dr P Lakshmaiah, chief of the NGO, Para Association of Rural Development (PARD) which designed the courses exclusively for Mahila Viswa Vidyalayam. Dr Lakshmaiah, a well-known name in the providing coaching to the civils aspirants in Hyderabad, said that the engineering and medical graduates were also eligible to join M A public policy course which was chiefly designed to provide coaching for civil services examinations.
“Public policy is nothing but the confluence of economics, public administration, political science and anthropology. All the subjects are included in the civil services preliminary examination and mains examination and hence the subjects were dealt in different semesters so that the student can learn the public policy as well as prepare for the civil services preliminary and mains exam nation. This course has been introduced to give impetus to women empowerment to help them crack the civil services as well as the groups in the state,” said Dr Lakshmaiah.
MORE POWER TO WOMEN
*Usually, students start their preparation for civil service examination either after completion of graduation or post-graduation.
*Pursuing public policy right at graduation or PG level would cut down their precious preparation time by at least 3-5 years: Dr Lakshmaiah of PARD.
*Second administrative reforms commission recommended all the universities to kick-start courses with a focus on civil services to bring more quality to the all India service cadres particularly from women and rural areas.
*Sri Padmavathi Mahila Vishwavidyalayam (SPMV), Tirupati is first university to start BA with public policy and anthropology in 2018-19
*The university launched the course with active support of an NGO Para Association for Rural Development (PARD)
*The anthropology was also included in this course as it was the most successful optional for the past three decades in the competitive field in general and civil services in particular.
*As Anthropology is nothing but the study of the human being which imparts human values and morals to the students which are very much essential in the present day administration.
*SPMV is launching MA public policy from the next academic year for which admissions would commence this week.
