The protests in the Lok Sabha, with the DMK MPs adding to it by seeking exemption for Tamil Nadu from the NEET, forced three adjournments, even as they briefly joined the proceedings by demanding that the bills, such as the one proposing to raise the legal age of marriage for women and another to amend the rules for chartered accountants, cost accounts and companies secretaries, be sent to the standing committees.
In the afternoon, many opposition MPs took out a demonstration from the Gandhi statue in Parliament complex to Vijay Chowk, condemning the attitude of the government in rushing through bills, not agreeing to their demand of sacking of Mishra and against the suspension of their colleagues.
Rahul tweets a lynching line
Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday tried to portray ‘lynching’ as a post-2014 phenomenon. “Before 2014, the word ‘lynching’ was practically unheard of. ThankYouModiJi,” Gandhi tweeted without mentioning the context and reason, even as the political class felt it was in the context of two lynching incidents in Punjab over the alleged sacrilege incidents. Even as the BJP hit back at him, some Congress MPs from Punjab were seen evading media queries on Gandhi’s tweet.
