Nepal Telecom (NTC) could launch eSIM card service soon. For this, Ntc and Monty UK Global Limited have struck a deal that will bring embedded SIM cards to the former’s customers. If goes as planned, Ntc users could get an eSIM for their mobile services in the first half of 2079 BS.
For the project, Ntc has signed an agreement with Monty UK Global’s regional representative Ultimate Horizon Technologies Pvt. Ltd. Ntc CCO Sangita Pahadi and Ultimate Horizon’s CEO Aditya Anand signed the agreement papers on Baisakh 11th 2079.
As per the agreement, the UK-based tech company Monty UK Global will provide a necessary eSIM platform for NTC.
At the signing ceremony, Mrs.Pahadi said that introducing eSIM is part of the company’s commitment to bringing modern technologies. She said the company will soon start its work on the project.
Similarly, Aditya Anand, CEO of Ultimate Horizon Technologies extended his views on the project. He said the company will fulfill all the technical works in time and hand over the platform to Ntc.

What is an eSIM?
Contrary to traditional physical SIM cards, eSIM cards have an embedded chip inside a device. It is not removable and remains in the same device where it finds the space. For an eSIM to function, it must be supported by the carrier. At the moment, limited carriers support eSIM but it’s growing in numbers.

Which Devices support eSIM?
eSIM ecosystem has grown over the past few years. Several phone makers have integrated eSIM card support into their phones to accommodate carriers who want to make a leap toward the next-gen SIM profile.
Apple’s iPhone 13 Series, iPhone 12 series, and iPhone 11 series come with eSIM support. Meanwhile, Samsung has also added eSIM compatibility for its flagship Galaxy S22 Series, S21 series (in some markets), Galaxy Z Flip, and Galaxy Fold series. and the list of eSIM compatible devices is likely to increase with every new moderate to high-end device launch.
It is not only phones that come with eSIM support but the latest wearable, tablets, and PCs also have the eSIM functionality. These devices are already here in the Nepali market. With the introduction of eSIM in Nepal, those devices can right away access mobile networks independently, that is without the support of phone data.
