NEW DELHI: Amarinder Singh on Sunday extended his best wishes to Charanjit Singh Channi, who has been named the new chief minister of Punjab.
Amarinder, who had stepped down from the chief minister’s post on Saturday, said he hopes that Channi is able to keep the borders of Punjab safe.
“I hope he is able to keep the border state of Punjab safe and protect our people from the growing security threat from across the border,” said a tweet posted by Amarinder’s media advisor Raveen Thukral.
After his resignation on Saturday, Amarinder had launched an all-out attack on Sidhu, with whom has been at loggerheads for several months.
The Congress veteran also said he won’t accept Sidhu as the next chief minister or the party face in the upcoming assembly polls.
He had dubbed Sidhu as “anti-national, dangerous, unstable, incompetent” and even a security threat to the state and the country.
Singh said there was no question of supporting the state Congress chief, alleging he “is clearly mixed up with Pakistan and a danger, as well as a disaster, for Punjab and the country”.
“I cannot allow such a man to destroy us. I will continue to fight the issues that are bad for the state and its people,” said Amarinder Singh lashing out at Sidhu for his “close alliance with the leadership across the border”.
Amarinder had resigned as the chief minister on Saturday and said he felt “humiliated” after several Congress MLAs raised a banner of revolt against him.
