Lucknow: Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi visited UP’s Bahriach on Thursday and met the families of the farmers killed in Lakhimpur Kheri, assuring them of justice.
Anshu Awasthi, Congress digital media convenor and spokesperson of Uttar Pradesh party unit, said Priyanka reached Nabinagar of Risia block to meet the family members of slain farmer Gurvinder Singh (22) on Thursday afternoon.
“The family members told Priyanka ji that Gurvinder was protesting (against the new farm laws) peacefully but was mowed down by an SUV and then shot dead. Priyanka ji gave her phone number to the family and asked them to contact her any time for help,” said Aswathi.
Later, Priyanka reached Banjaran Tada village of Nanpara area and met the family members of deceased farmer Daljit (32). “The family members showed the video of the peaceful demonstration of Daljit Singh and claimed that he was run over by a speeding car,” said Aswathi.
Prior to leaving for Bahriach, Priyanka visited a temple in Lucknow to celebrate Navratri.
