BASTAR: A Maoist commander, carrying a bounty of Rs 10 lakh, was gunned down in an encounter in the forests of Narayanpur in Bastar division on Monday, less than 48 hours after 26 Maoists were killed by security forces in neighbouring Gadchiroli in Maharashtra. It’s believed he was fleeing the Gadchiroli encounter zone. Narayanpur SP Girijashankar Jaiswal identified the slain Maoist as Saket alias Bhaskar Nureti, commander of PLGA company 6. He was involved in several attacks on security forces, including two this year that led to the death of seven jawans, said police.
Saket was involved in more than 30 cases of violence, the SP told TOI.
