NEW DELHI: India has steered clear of the two camps thrown up by the Ukraine invasion and its stand is being appreciated around the world, Prime Minister Modi said in a virtual address to BJP members at the party’s 42nd foundation day celebrations. “When the whole world is divided between two opposing poles, India is being seen as a country which is assertive about the interests of humanity,” he said.
Reiterating that India now stands as a steadfast and robust nation amidst multiple crises affecting the world order, the PM said, “Today, the country has demonstrated it has policies, intent, decisiveness and assertiveness”. The PM was talking in the context of how India was unflinching in safeguarding its interests when importing cheaper oil from Russia despite the global embargo and at the same time speaking firmly against Russia in the larger interests of humanity.
In his tweets, the PM also welcomed the appreciation from parliamentarians for Operation Ganga that the government launched for the evacuation of Indian students from Ukraine. “Over the last few days Parliament has witnessed a healthy discussion on the situation in Ukraine and India’s efforts to bring back our citizens through Operation Ganga. I am grateful to all MP colleagues who enriched this discussion with their views. It is our collective duty to care for the safety and well-being of our fellow citizens and the Government of India will leave no stone unturned to ensure our people do not face any troubles in adverse situations. ”
In his foundation day address, Prime Minister Modi said, “There was a time when people used to believe that there won’t be a change in the country’s fate irrespective of who is in government … disappointment was ubiquitous. Today everyone in the country is saying proudly that the country is changing and growing rapidly. ”
The PM dwelt on how India is progressing on all fronts, citing meeting of export target of $400 billion, administering 180 crore-plus vaccine doses and providing rations to 80 crore poor and underprivileged citizens.
