NEW DELHI: The home ministry on Wednesday refused to indicate a timeline for restoration of statehood or conducting of assembly election in Jammu & Kashmir, with MoS (home) Nityanand Rai telling the Rajya Sabha that statehood to J&K would be granted at an appropriate time and that the decision to schedule elections is the prerogative of Election Commission.
7 plots of land purchased by ‘outsiders’ in J&K, all in Jammu
The home ministry on Wednesday informed the Rajya Sabha that a total of seven plots of land have been purchased by persons from outside the Union territory of Jammu and & Kashmir. All the seven plots are located in Jammu division, it stated.
Didn’t get any report of bias in auditing of NGOs under FCRA, says MHA:
As many as 188 associations and NGOs registered under FCRA have been audited from January 2021 till date, according to the home ministry. MoS (home) Nityanand Rai denied MHA receiving any report about the auditors having exhibited discriminatory bias of religious and political parochialism.
‘Population Census not ideal tool for caste-wise enumeration’:
The Union home ministry on Wednesday said the population census is not an ideal instrument for caste-wise or OBC enumeration of the population, amid demands by many opposition parties and even allies to conduct a caste census. It added that even the National Sample Survey (NSS) is not specifically designed to estimate population of country or that of any social group.
