NEW DELHI: Two-wheeler dealers in Haryana now face the risk of cancellation of their dealership, if they don’t provide one helmet to the buyer at the time of selling new motorcycles or put up a message board informing people that the helmet is compulsorily supplied at the time of purchasing any two-wheeler.
According to the Central Motor Vehicle Rules, the two-wheeler manufacturer must supply a protective gear, helmet, confirming to BIS standard. In a circular issued to all the district transport officers and vehicle registration authorities, the transport department has said, “Obviously, all registered dealers selling two-wheeler are duty bound to supply helmets of prescribed standards to the purchaser of two-wheelers.”
It said there have been reports that some dealers are not complying with the provision. The department said giving the helmet to buyers along with their two-wheeler is necessary considering that wearing a standard helmet is mandatory for riders.
The department has directed the local officials to ask all registered dealers to put flex boards outside their outlets informing the purchasers that the helmet is compulsorily supplied at the time of purchase. The officers have been asked to take the photographs of boards and send them to the head office.
“Those dealers who do not supply the headgear or do not put up the flex board be issued show cause notice for revoking the licence for the dealership,” the circular said.
