NEW DELHI: With Covaxin and Corbevax getting emergency use approval in children below 12, the vaccine makers said the shots have been tested and expressed readiness for a potential rollout once the government decides.
Bharat Biotech chairman and managing director Krishna Ella said, “We have established Covaxin as a universal vaccine for adults and children. Safety of the vaccine is critical for children and we are glad to share Covaxin has now proven data for safety and immunogenicity in children…”
Bharat Biotech said it had conducted Phase 2/3, open-label, and multi-centre studies to evaluate the safety, reactogenicity and immunogenicity of their jab in healthy children and adolescents in the 2-18 years’ age group. “The clinical trials conducted in the pediatric population between June 2021 to September 2021 have shown robust safety, reactogenicity and immunogenicity. The data readouts were submitted to the CDSCO during October 2021 and received emergency use nod for 12-18 group from DCGI during December 2021,” it said.
Hyderabad-based firm, Biological E, said it has manufactured 30 crore doses of Corbevax and has supplied nearly 10 crore doses to the government.
