NEW DELHI: Union home minister Amit Shah will be meeting with chief ministers from the southern states in Tirupati on November 14.
The Southern Zonal Council meeting was scheduled for March but had to be pushed back following the second wave of the covid pandemic.
Apart from the chief ministers of Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Telangana and Puducherry, Lieutenant Governors of Puducherry, Andaman and Nicobar and Administrator of Lakshwadeep is also expected to attend the meeting, meant to sort out issues with the Centre as well as between the states.
In this regard, Andhra Pradesh chief minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy plans to take up that pending issues related to the State Formation Act, special status for the state, the Polavaram project and power dues of Rs 6300 crore.
With Andhra Pradesh gearing up to take up pending dues from neighbouring Tamil Nadu for the Telugu Ganga project, revenue shortfall, pending arrears in civil supplies from Telangana and rational allocation of PDS rice by the Centre, the meeting could see heated discussions between the states.
River water sharing and the Centre’s proposed river interlinking projects are also likely to come up for discussion, even as different states have their respective views on them.
