Microsoft has announced that its HoloLens 2 mixed reality headset is now available in India. For those who are unaware, mixed reality blends the physical and digital worlds covering the spectrum from augmented reality to virtual reality so that these worlds can co-exist and interact in real time. As per the company, the headset augments the jobs of first-line employees in sectors such as manufacturing, automotive, healthcare and education. The HoloLens 2 is an enterprise product and is available in India via commercial authorised resellers Softline and Team Computer.
The Microsoft HoloLens 2 headset is also available in Italy, Netherlands, Switzerland, Spain, Austria, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Denmark, Belgium, Portugal, Poland, Singapore, Hong Kong and Taiwan. A study commissioned by Microsoft claims that the HoloLens 2 offered a 177 percent return on investment (ROI) over three years, as well as improvements to employee health and safety, business continuity, customer experience, and customer outcomes.
Mixed reality can help solve future business and industry challenges, including the skills gap, by enabling simulated on-the-job training, optimizing operations and efficiencies through real-time insights and visual guidance, and driving innovation at the intelligent edge. As per Microsoft, integrating HoloLens 2 with Mixed Reality Business Applications, industry ISV solutions, and both new and existing Azure services turns it into a powerful device for both businesses and employees.
“We are in a new era of computing, in which the digital world goes beyond two-dimensional screens and enters the three-dimensional world. HoloLens 2 helps businesses, and their employees complete crucial tasks faster, safer, and more efficiently, and creates new ways to connect with customers and partners. It also addresses specific local industry challenges by enabling capabilities that help companies become more competitive and innovative at scale,” said Rajiv Sodhi, chief operating officer, Microsoft India.
