Every year on March 23, Shaheed Diwas commemorates the deaths of Indian freedom fighters Bhagat Singh, Shivaram Rajguru, and Sukhdev Thapar.
The three were hanged by Britishers in the Lahore Central Jail in British India (now Pakistan) on March 23, 1931. In the Lahore conspiracy case, the brave patriots were sentenced to death and ordered to be hanged on March 24, 1931. They were, however, hanged on March 23, 1931, at 7-30 p.m., approximately 11 hours before the scheduled time.
Bhagat Singh is regarded as one of the most influential revolutionaries in India’s independence movement. Thousands were encouraged to join the independence movement as a result of his efforts. He was a valiant freedom fighter. His patriotism was directed not just against British authority, but also against the partition of India along communal lines. He was a brilliant, mature man who was always drawn to socialism.
Bhagat Singh was drawn to anarchist and Marxist ideologies, which prompted him to consider revolutionary ideas. He was a bright student who enjoyed reading and was usually involved in extracurricular activities. He was born on September 28, 1907, to a Sikh family in Punjab, India (now Pakistan). He was a member of various revolutionary organisations and served as a role model for patriotism throughout the country.
Bhagat Singh quit his school at the age of thirteen to devote his life to Indian independence, and he died at the tender age of 23. Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh, which was his popular name, was found guilty of murdering a British police officer and executed on March 23, 1931.
