India has called for proactive collective efforts towards protecting economies with supply chain disruption, prolonged inflation and volatility in energy markets dampening the global growth momentum.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said the G20 was well placed to catalyse international policy co-ordination to deal with macroeconomic consequences and called for proactive collective efforts towards protecting economies.

Sitharaman, who is in the US to attend the spring meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank, was speaking at the G20 finance ministers and central bank governors meeting.

Sitharaman said the global growth momentum had been dampened by prolonged inflation, supply chain disruption, volatility in energy markets and investor uncertainty, according to a tweet by the finance ministry.

The meeting, held under the presidency of Indonesia, discussed global economic outlook and risk, international financial architecture and global health.
