Such was the lack of confidence of the government side in facing the Houses for a debate on fuel price hikes and thus the rush to end the session, the Congress floor leaders said at a briefing, that the regime did not even bring to the Rajya Sabha the two listed bills already passed by the Lok Sabha – the WMDs Amendment Bill and the Indian Antarctic Bill – even if it meant leaving these two legislations incomplete.
The government’s actions, they said, came despite the opposition extending constructive cooperation by participating in many legislations and discussions during the session by raising their points of view and reservations.
“The abrupt adjournment of the Parliament session is a breach of commitment made by the government at the BAC meeting to hold a discussion on the price rise on a daily basis of the fuel products,” said Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, Congress leader in the Lok Sabha. “The government suddenly decided to adjourn the session even after allocating time at the BAC meeting for a discussion on the price rise, which has affected all sections of society. The credibility index of the government is now under question.”
The leader of opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, said, “The Parliament session has been closed two days ahead of schedule even though the government side had given the (House ) agenda up to Friday. The government didn’t want a discussion on price rise.”
