Google launched its first Chromecast with Google TV in 2020. Two years later, Google is reportedly working on a new Chromecast with Google TV device, according to the documentation spotted by the 9to5Google website.
As per the documentation, Google is working on an Android-powered device codenamed Boreal. 9to5Google has reported that their APK insight team has confirmed that the codename is connected to Google TV Chromecast software for Android which basically powers the Chromecast with Google TV.
Also, the report further highlighted that the Boreal codename is from the same family as Sabrina which was earlier the codename for the current Chromecast with Google TV.
The documentation does not reveal any particular feature or specification of the reported Google TV device, which means there are no details of what the upcoming device will bring to the table over the existing model.
9to5Google has also reported that there’s a possibility that the new Chromecast with Google TV will add support for AV1 video format which was missing from the current model. It is also expected that Google will add more onboard storage space.
Right now, we don’t have any information on when Google is planning to announce the new Chromecast with Google TV device. But we can expect something more from the upcoming Chromecast, maybe a different form factor than just the dongle design or slightly better internals.
