100% cut-off
In addition to Jesus and Mary College, SRCC, Ramjas College and Hindu College have set 100 % cut for admission this year. SRCC has 100% cut-off for admission to BA Economics (H) and BCom (H) while Ramjas College and Hindu College both have set 100% cut-off for Political Science (H) programme.
With 0.5% decrease as compared to last years, Lady Shri Ram College (LSR) has 99.5% cut-off for Economics (H). In 2020, LSR had set a 100% cut off for three courses — BA (H) Political Science, BA (H) Psychology and BA (H) Economics.
Kirori Mal College (KMC) has kept the highest cut off at 99.75% for admission to Political Science (H), BCom (H), Math (H) and B Com. Ramanujan College is also not lagging behind and set the cut-off 99% for admission to Applied Psychology (H) followed by BCom (H) with 98.5%.
“Fearing over admission due to high pass percentage in board exams this year, most of the colleges have kept their cut-off slightly high as compared to 2020,” says Manoj Sinha, principal, Aryabhatta College. At 98.59% Aryabhatta College has set highest cut-off for Psychology (H) followed by 98% for Economics (H) and 96% for both English and Political Science (H).
On continuous high cut-off for Political Science and Psychology, Sinha reasons that there has been high demand for these two courses in view of wider career opportunities. “Candidates with a degree in Political Science can opt for International Relations and Public Policy related courses. Additionally, a degree in Political Science equips students with skills to become a political analyst, commentator. They can hope to have a career in journalism. The subject also helps them to prepare better for Civil Services exam and other state-level public service commission examinations,” says Sinha who is a Political Science professor.
On high cut-off for Psychology, Sinha explains that there is limited number of colleges in DU offering the subject. “Around 11 colleges across the University have Psychology (H) programme and three of them offer Applied Psychology. Also, majority of the colleges are for women which narrows the chance for male candidates to get admission,” says Sinha.
