Buying a Windows PC: Which Intel processor is best suited for you – Rashtra News
Laptop and desktop buyers have a plethora of choices to pick from. Several brands have many offerings with multiple configuration options, which can often be a tad confusing. The heart of any laptop is the processor and Intel is one of the popular choices among buyers. However, it can get confusing as when you are in the market to buy a computer you would see Intel Core i9 or i7 or i5 or i3 processors. Here we tell which is the best processor you can opt for while buying a Windows PC:
Difference between Intel processors
Intel’s Core i9 series is the fastest processor you can buy but it also costs quite a lot. The Core here adds more processing power to the machine and the i9 processor has about 16 cores. Eight cores are for performance cores — meant for handling high-intensive tasks — and the other eight are efficiency cores for less-intensive tasks. So the more the cores, the better a machine can handle high-intensive tasks. The Core i3 processor will have lesser cores and hence is more suitable for budget laptops and ‘regular’ tasks rather than ‘professional’ tasks.
Which Intel processor is most suitable for you?
Intel has already launched its 12th generation of processors but it hasn’t started shipping to laptops. So the 11th generation of processors is still the best bet for most buyers.
If word processing, answering emails, video calls are all you do on your laptop, an Intel Core i5 processor is ideal for your basic needs. If there’s a budget constraint, then even an i3 processor might do the trick.
For those who are into graphic designing, architecture, professional video editing, the Intel Core i9 processor is the one for you. A high-end laptop — Core i9 is found in premium laptops mostly — that will cost you a bit much (over Rs 1 lakh) but will do almost anything and everything without any glitches. If you are one of those buyers who doesn’t want to compromise on performance at all, a laptop with a Core i9 processor is the most suitable for you.
Intel processor ‘suitable’ for students
If the purpose of your laptop is to attend online classes, watching movies, light gaming, and not too specialised software, then a Core i5 processor is the right choice. You will find them in mid-range laptops and an i5 processor generally has 10 cores. It should be good enough for light video editing, not so heavy-duty gaming and routine tasks.
For those who want their laptops to be primary gaming devices, the Core i7 processor is a good option to go for. You will have to check on the GPU as well but for most graphic-intensive games, the Core i7 can handle it well. It is also good enough for multitasking and other routine tasks. The Core i7 processor has about 12 cores and can handle the most strenuous activities.
