The Delhi unit of the BJP filed a police complaint against AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan on Wednesday, accusing him of using “abusive language” against Prime Minister Narendra Modi at an event last month.
A delegation of BJP leaders, including the party’s Delhi chief Satish Upadhyay, met police commissioner Alok Kumar and submitted a copy of the video “obtained from the social media”.
The opposition’s politics was surviving on a competition of using “abusive” language against the Prime Minister, Upadhyay said, adding that the Okhla MLA made the remarks during an event organised by the Delhi government’s Urdu Academy last month.
Though the AAP has questioned the veracity of the video, Khan defended his alleged remarks by stating that he was merely criticising the “anti-Dalit” and “anti-minority” policies of the BJP-led government at the Centre. “What did I say wrong? I just said that the Modi government is against Dalits. I spoke against the policies of the government, given the way it is suppressing the rights and freedom of Dalits, minorities and students, and sending them to jail after framing them in false cases,” he said.
The delegation, however, wanted legal action to be taken against Khan.
“The BJP leaders met the commissioner and lodged a complaint. It will be looked into, and appropriate action will be taken as per law,” said Taj Hassan, special commissioner (crime branch) and chief spokesperson of Delhi Police.
