Aurangabad’s Ramayani Roy of Patel High School Daudnagar has topped the exam by securing 487 out of 500 marks with an aggregate of 97.4 per cent. Saniya Kumari, Project Girls High School, Rajauli in Nawada and Vivek Kumar Thakur of New Upgrade High School, Madhubani shared second rank with 97.2% each. Pragya Kumari, Utkramit Madhyamik School, Goh, Aurangabad ranked third with 97%.
The overall passing percentage in matriculation examination has slightly gone up by 1.7 per cent as 79.88% of students who appeared for the exam passed this year. Last year, the pass percentage was recorded at 78.18 per cent. Of 16.11 lakh students appeared in the BSEB Matric exam, 12,86,971 succeeded including 6,08,861 girls and 6,78,110 boys.
Of successful students, a total of 4,24,597 students (32.9%) passed with first division, 5,10,411(39.65%) secured second division and 3,47,637 (27.01%) cleared the exam with third division whereas 4,326 students got compartmental. Altogether 413 examinees were expelled for using unfair means while 64 persons impersonating as candidates were arrested.
Detailing about the results, Board chairman Anand Kishor said a total of eight students have made it to the top 5 and 47 students in the top 10 list. He said that this year it was for the first time that in the history of Bihar and in any board of the country, the result of matriculation has been released in the month of March.
“Earlier, the Board has released the results in the month of April. Several important improvements have been made by the Board using modern technology in its examination system. The results of more than 16.11 lakh students were published in just 27 days, which is a record. More than 96 lakh bar-coded copies were evaluated by the teachers and marks were entered directly by the computer operators on BSEB’s software,” Kishor said.
The minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary said he was pleased that Bihar has been consistently ahead in taking the exam and publishing the results in record time, when compared to other boards. “We declared class XII results on March 16 and class X within 14-days. There is no compromise of any kind in releasing the results in record time,” he said.
Addressing the media persons, the minister said 80% girls have figured in top 5, it shows that the CM Nitish Kumar’s vision to educate all girls in Bihar. “The society is now giving equal importance to girl’s education. Secondly, the state has seen the shift of students from other boards to Bihar board in last 3-4 years since we have improved our examination system. As per the figure of 2019, around 69,500 students of CBSE, CISCE and other state boards have taken admission in Bihar Board,” he said.
Additional chief secretary (education), Sanjay Kumar, who was also present, said the students who have made in the merit list belong to rural areas, which is a good sign for the state that excellence in education is being achieved continuously. He also congratulated the Board for conducting a fair and impartial exam by maintaining the sanctity of the examination.
