Union Defence minister, Rajnath Singh will attend the programme. Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted, “To honour the supreme sacrifice of soldiers who took part in 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War, an award ceremony will be held on April 23, which will be graced with the presence of Adarniya Raksha Mantri Shri @rajnathsingh Ji. Reviewed the preparations along with Cabinet colleagues,.”
Sarma held meetings with ministers and official on this regard. He added, “Several people do not know about the bravery and deeds of soldiers from Northeast India in the liberation war.”
Sarma said, “We are in touch with parents with youths who have recently gone to join Ulfa (independent). This is not the right way. Some people are going to join ULFA and definitely we are worried about it.”
Recently some youths have joined the ULFA (Independent) also known as anti-talk ULFA.
The chief minister added, “To ensure that this youth are dissuaded is the work of the society. Some youths attracted by the outfit’s ideology go to join it, however later they come and surrender.”
Sarma however clarified that this is nothing to do with the move to bring this proscribed outfit to peace parleys.
