This is the first that Salem has been convicted in a case involving him in India after he was deported in 2005.
Pradeep Jain, the Mumbai based builder, was shot dead by assailants outside his Juhu bungalow on March 7, 1995. He, allegedly, had refused to part his huge property with Salem.
The special trail judge had completed the trial of three people– Salem, builder Virendra Jhamb and Mehndi Hassan.
Other accused Naeem Khan and Riyaz Siddiqui accepted the fault and turned hostile in the court.
Gangster Salem is facing trial in various cases in India, including 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case, fake passport case and 2002 extortion case from a Delhi-based businessman.
The court, however in January last year dropped few sections against Salem saying some charges need to be withdrawn in order to maintain cordial relations between two sovereign countries — India and Portugal.
Salem was extradited from Portugal on November 11, 2005, after a prolonged legal battle.
